Sun City Festival – A Great Golf Community in Arizona for Staying Fit

One of the best things about living in a golf community in Arizona is how much opportunity you will find to enjoy the links and work in some healthy exercise at the same time.  A golf course community can be home to the most physically fit 55+ seniors you have ever met!

If you are thinking about making your new home on the Sun City Festival golf course, I have some great suggestions on how to build your stamina so that you can really get the most for this unique way of life.

Walk, Walk, Walk

Walk everywhere, as often as possible.  You want to reach the point where you can leave the golf cart in the garage and get your workout walking the course.  Start with whatever feels comfortable with an additional distance challenge each week.  Walking is a great form of low-impact cardiovascular exercise, and in addition to the flexibility and balance improvements you will see from golfing, it just can’t be beat (except for maybe in the middle of the summer in the middle of the day).

Focus On Hips, Ankles, and Shoulders

If you have access to a rowing machine, a few minutes a day can make a huge difference in your shoulder, arm and lower back strength.  If no rowing machine is available, dumbbells in combination with targeted lifting are very effective.  Simple ankle rotations and calf stretches, especially before hitting the links, can be very beneficial as well.  Practicing your swing is a great way to increase flexibility in your shoulders and should be part of your pre-game warm up.

Yoga For Balance

Balance is very important to your golf game and is also an important area to focus on for the active senior.  Yoga is probably the best way to get great exercise that is easy on the body while also improving your balance. Achieving improvement your balance will not only help with your game but also in all areas of your life.

These simple exercises will serve you well as you settle into life in a golf community here in Arizona.   Please fill out the form below if you are interested in learning more about Sun City Festival.
